Nuria Elizabeth Rocha Guzmán (NERG) member of the National System of Researchers, México (SNI III), and Mexican Academy of Sciences, has a BSc in Biochemistry Engineering and MSc degree in Food Science from Technological Institute of Durango, Mexico. She undertook a PhD in the “Biological effect of mesquite seed lectins on cervical-uterine cancer cells”. NERG is Professor-Researcher in the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering of the National Technological Institute of Mexico campus Technological Institute of Durango. Coordinator of the Master of Science and Technology of Functional Foods program, President of the Council of the Master of Science in Biochemical Engineering program. Head of the Functional Food Laboratory of the Graduate Unit, Research and Technological Development (UPIDET). Her work interest is associated with the study of Functional Foods and Bioactive Ingredients. She is leader in the research topic of generation and application of knowledge of omic technologies. NERG is a member of the multidisciplinary research group of Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals. Actively participates in the International Academic Network of Nanotechnology and omics for the study of Nutraceuticals and in the National Academic Network of Research, Innovation and Technological Development in Functional and Nutraceutical Foods "AlFaNutra". Her main research interests are focused on 1) study of the cellular and molecular mechanisms that are activated in cells, animal tissues and humans as a consequence of their exposure to the bioactive constituents of the diet and/or their metabolic derivatives, whether they are microbial metabolites or physiological conjugates, 2) role of polyphenols in the bioavailability and bioaccessibility of bioactive metabolites (in vitro and in vivo) and 3) determination of the effect of active compounds present in functional foods, natural products and nutraceuticals, determining their bioavailability, bioaccessibility and bioactivity (in vitro and in vivo).
