His main research area is the molecular biology of the bacterial resistance to antibiotics. He is the head of the Department of Epidemiology Diagnosis at the INSP, Infectious Diseases Research Centre, and co-director of the Medicines in Public Health Research Group at the Institute, coordinating research projects on antibiotic resistance in Mexico and Latin America.
He has been principal investigator of various research projects in the area of antibiotic resistance molecular mechanism, and has published over 52 international scientific papers. He lectures on Bachelor, Master and Doctoral level on bacterial resistance. He is an active member of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID), and the American Society of Microbiology (ASM).
He was a fellowship at Dr. Patrice NORDMAN and Dr. Laurent POIREL laboratory, Service de Bacteriologie Virology, Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de BICETRE Cedex. Assistance Publique, Hopitaux de Paris, (2006 and 2009).
Collaborating interest: Identification and characterization of molecular mechanism in bacterial resistance to antibiotics.
