Dr. Mayela Violante-Rodríguez serves as an Attending Neurologist at the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery (INNN) in Mexico City, one of Latin America's premier institutions for neurological care, research, and medical education. In this capacity, Dr. Violante-Rodríguez provides specialized clinical care to patients with complex neurological conditions, with a primary concentration on Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders. In addition to clinical duties, Dr. Violante-Rodríguez is the Principal Professor for the High Specialty Course in Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders. In this role, Dr. Violante-Rodríguez leads the training, mentoring, and academic development of fellow neurologists and medical subspecialists, shaping the next generation of clinical leaders and researchers in the field of movement disorders across the region.

Academic Qualifications & Subspecialty Training
Dr. Violante-Rodríguez earned a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), undertaking advanced scientific research in neurosciences. To further specialize in the field, Dr. Violante-Rodríguez completed clinical subspecialty fellowship training in Movement Disorders at the prestigious Hospital Clínic de Barcelona in Spain, gaining international expertise in advanced diagnostic techniques, specialized patient management, and experimental therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases.

A recognized leader in clinical and translational neurosciences, Dr. Violante-Rodríguez holds the highest distinction within Mexico's National System of Researchers (Sistema Nacional de Investigadores, SNI Level 3). This distinction reflects a sustained track record of high-impact scientific publications, international research collaborations, and significant contributions to advancing the understanding of movement disorders. Dr. Violante-Rodríguez actively contributes to major global research initiatives aimed at elucidating the genetic architecture and clinical manifestations of neurodegenerative conditions, serving as an active investigator within the Global Parkinson’s Genetics Program (GP2), PD Generation (PDGenetics), and the Latin American Research Consortium on the Genetics of Parkinson’s Disease (LARGE-PD).

Institutional Leadership & Professional Governance
Dr. Violante-Rodríguez has consistently contributed to the governance and advancement of neurology at both national and international levels. Her professional governance experience includes serving as Councilor of the Mexican Board of Neurology (Consejo Mexicano de Neurología), where she worked to uphold rigorous standards for clinical practice and board certification across the country. Additionally, she served as Adjunct Secretary of the National Academy of Medicine of Mexico (Academia Nacional de Medicina de México) for the 2019–2020 term, participating in national healthcare policy dialogues and academic governance. Internationally, Dr. Violante-Rodríguez was elected to serve as an International Executive Committee Member of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (IPMDS) from 2017 to 2019, guiding global strategic priorities, educational programming, and clinical guidelines for movement disorder specialists worldwide.
