Gustavo Pacheco-Lopez (b. 1974) is a consolidated neuroscientist (SNI-3) focused on the complex interactions among the central nervous, immune and endocrine systems: Integrative Behavioral Neuroscience. With an interdisciplinary approach and working with humans and animal models, he successfully incorporates innovative methods, such as fMRI, µCT, bioimpedance spectroscopy, next-generation DNA sequencing, indirect in vivo calorimetry, biopotentials telemetry, among others. He published numerous research and review articles (n= 63) with high impact, already reaching a H-index = 23, and a getting above 1,350 citations. Additionally Pacheco-Lopez contributed with several specialized book chapters (n=8). He has been successfully on training, mentoring and graduating students (BSc= 8, MSc= 12, PhD= 13), postdocs (n= 5), and associate researcher (n=1); as well as accumulating a solid teaching portfolio in several prestigious universities. Pacheco-Lopez has been also successful in attracting funding, supporting his research projects from different sources, including: Mexican Science and Technology Council (CONACYT), Mexican Education Ministry (SEP), Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), and US National Institute of Health (NIH), French Agency of Research (ANR), German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) among others, accumulating so far more than $2,000,000 USD in extramural funding.
Trained in Mexico, Germany and Switzerland Pacheco-Lopez previous working affiliations include Duisburg-Essen University, Germany; ETH Zurich, Switzerland; and CIVESTAV-IPN, Mexico. Currently, Pacheco-Lopez is appointed in Mexico as Full Professor at the Metropolitan Autonomous University (UAM) Campus Lerma, coordinates the CI3M – Mexiquense Unit of the National Laboratory for Research in Biomedical Instrumentation and Imaging (CI3M), and was the study director of the BSc in Biomedical Psychology at UAM (2017-2018). Since 2012 he was also recognized as Guest lecturer at the ETH Zurich, and from October 2014 onwards he is part-time Senior Researcher at the Unit of Health, Medical, and Neuropsychology, Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Leiden University, The Netherlands, where he is also member of the Leiden Institute for Brain and Cognition (LIBC). At present, Pacheco-Lopez also holds a Guest-Professorship at the Department of Health Science and Technology, ETH-Zurich, Switzerland. Recently, Pacheco-Lopez was distinguished with the “2017 State Award for Science and Technology” from the Government of the State of Mexico, and as “2017 Cleveringa Lecture in Mexico” from the Leiden University, The Netherlands. Since October 2018 Pacheco-Lopez is Head of the Biological and Health Sciences Division, at UAM Campus Lerma.
