Alberto Reyes González is a Mexican architect, educator, and interdisciplinary researcher whose work integrates architecture, urban design, sustainability, cultural heritage, and social participation. He earned his degree in Architecture from the University of Guadalajara, where he studied at the Centro Universitario de Arte, Arquitectura y Diseño. During his undergraduate education, he participated in academic mobility at the Politecnico di Milano in Italy, engaging in specialized workshops in urban design, environmental projection, and architectural analysis through the Laboratorio di Progettazione Ambientale and Laboratorio di Progettazione Architettonica at the Leonardo Da Vinci Campus.
He holds a Master’s and a PhD in Sciences for Development, Sustainability and Tourism, also from the University of Guadalajara. His graduate studies focused on the intersection of territorial development, environmental regeneration, and sociocultural dynamics in urban contexts, with a particular emphasis on sustainable tourism and public space.
His professional development includes international certifications and programs. He completed the Applied Leadership Program in Renewable Energy offered by the Center for Health and the Global Environment at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Additionally, he participated in the Diploma and Urban Planning Internship on Civic Culture and Sustainable Mobility coordinated by the Municipality of Medellín, Colombia. These international experiences strengthened his capacity to connect academic knowledge with urban innovation, governance, and social transformation strategies in Latin American contexts.
Reyes González was a fellow of the Latin American Center for Interdisciplinary Training (CELFI) at the National University of Córdoba, Argentina, in 2018 and 2019. During this fellowship, he collaborated with interdisciplinary teams in the area of sustainability and development, designing comparative public policy frameworks for projects focused on memory, cultural identity, and the protection of urban heritage.
Since 2006, he has served as a full-time Professor and Researcher at the Tecnológico Nacional de México – Instituto Tecnológico José Mario Molina Pasquel y Henríquez, Unidad Académica Puerto Vallarta. There, he is a founding member of the Academic Body “Design and Innovation” (ITESDPV-CA-5), and regularly teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in architecture, sustainable design, and urban studies. He has directed over 30 undergraduate and master’s theses in fields such as urban regeneration, inclusive public space, community heritage, and mobility systems.
He holds the PRODEP Academic Profile, awarded by the Mexican Ministry of Public Education, and is an active member of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadoras e Investigadores (SNII) of the Consejo Nacional de Humanidades, Ciencias y Tecnologías (CONAHCYT), where he currently holds the rank of level one. His academic production includes peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, conference presentations, and technical reports, several of which have been published in international platforms in Spanish, English, and Italian.
Beyond academia, Alberto Reyes González is deeply involved in community engagement and public service. He is a member of the Municipal Council for Culture and the Arts of Puerto Vallarta, where he coordinates the Architecture Commission. In addition, he is the founding secretary of the Observatorio Ciudadano del Centro Histórico of Puerto Vallarta, a multidisciplinary initiative that fosters dialogue and participatory governance for the preservation and revitalization of the city’s cultural and architectural heritage.
His recent projects have focused on urban accessibility, inclusive mobility, and the sustainable recovery of public space. These include technical advisory roles for the Puerto Vallarta City Government, where he has contributed to the design and validation of proposals for linear parks, pedestrian infrastructure, and heritage conservation with a participatory and socio-environmental approach.
Reyes González’s interdisciplinary approach positions him at the intersection of urban research, design practice, cultural policy, and citizen engagement. His work seeks to build bridges between academia and territory, theory and practice, and knowledge and collective action, in order to promote more inclusive, resilient, and culturally rooted urban environments in Latin America.
