Juan Carlos Martínez-García received the Diploma degree in mechanical and electrical engineering from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, in 1989, the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the Center for Advanced Studies and Research, National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico (Cinvestav-IPN), Mexico, in 1991, and the Ph.D. degree (summa cum laude) in mathematical control theory from the Ecole Centrale Nantes, Nantes, France, in 1994. He is currently a Professor in control theory with Cinvestav-IPN. His current research interests include robustness analysis of linear and nonlinear systems, fault diagnosis in dynamical systems, and applications of feedback control and identification in several disciplines, including earthquake engineering, nonlinear mechanical systems, synthetic biology, quantum control, and medical systems biology. He has been a Visiting Researcher with the Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague, Czech Republic; National Center for the Scientific Research (CNRS), France; Mexican Institute of Petrol, Mexico; and Universidad de la República de Uruguay. He was a Sabbatical Fellow with the Systems Biology Department of Harvard Medical School, Longwood, Boston, USA. He was an Invited Professor with the Ecole Centrale de Nantes, France. In 2013, he was a Visiting Scholar with the Bioengineering Department, University of California at Berkeley.
