LARA ZAVALA, MARIA

María Pía Lara is Distinguished Professor at the Department of Philosophy of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (Mexico City), and Emeritus Researcher of the National System of Researchers (SECIHTI, México). She received her PHD in Philosophy from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain), and is the author of several books, including Una estética para espectadores. El laboratorio del arte en la conciencia temporal moderna (Gedisa, 2024), Beyond the Public Sphere. Film and the Feminist Imaginary (Northwestern University Press, 2021), The Disclosure of Politics. Struggles over the Semantics of Secularization (Columbia University Press, 2013), Narrating Evil. A Postmetaphysical Theory of Reflective Judgment (Columbia University Press, 2007), and Moral Textures. Feminist Narratives in the Public Sphere (University of California Press, 1998). She has written numerous articles and book chapters on feminism, secularism, populism, critical theory, and conceptual history, among other topics. She is co-director of the annual Colloquium “Philosophy and Social Sciences”, at the Institute of Philosophy at the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague, and is a member of the Editorial Board of Thesis Eleven and Constellations. An International Journal of Critical and Democratic Theory. She has been a visiting scholar and visiting professor at the New School for Social Research (2013/2014, 2009/2010, 2001-2002), the University of Cagliari (2008), the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Western Australia (2005), Visiting Fellow at the Institute for Research of Women and Gender, Stanford University (1998-1999), and the IIstitut für Hermeneutik, Freie Universität Berlin (1994-1995).
