FLORES FARFAN, JOSE ANTONIO

Linguistics Professor at the Center for Research and Advanced Studies in Social Anthropology (CIESAS) since 1984. Doctorate in Arts and Letters by the
University of Amsterdam (1995).

His research interests include applied linguistics, pragmatics, language contact, discourse analysis, the link between language and education and language planning (especially the field of language revitalization). Since over a decade he has worked with languages at risk, generating materials enabling multimodal enhancement, empowerment and revitalization of endangered languages and cultures; coordinating and publishing successfully over 30 titles in different indigenous languages such as Nahuatl, Yucatec Maya, Ñuu Savi, Hñähñu, among others. He has taught about 40 graduate courses in such areas of specialization and supervised about 30 theses, encompassing masters and doctorates. Flores Farfán currently coordinates the Digital Repository of Indigenous Languages at CIESAS and is director of Linguapax America, member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences and the Mexican National Research System.
