Desde 1973El Centro de Investigaciones y Estudios Superiores en Antropología Social (CIESAS) es un centro público de investigación perteneciente a la Secretaría de Humanidades, Ciencias, Tecnologías e Innovación (SECIHTI), fundado en 1973. Es la institución líder en México en investigación y posgrado en antropología social, historia, lingüística y ciencias sociales. Cuenta con unidades regionales en Ciudad de México, Occidente, Golfo, Sureste, Noreste y Pacífico Sur, con más de 200 investigadores de alto nivel.
