SPIGNO, IRENE

Irene Spigno is Director General of the Inter-American Academy of Human Rights; Research Doctor in Law and Economics, section of Comparative Public Law, from the University of Siena, Italy. She is also Director of the Center for Comparative Constitutional Studies of the IDH Academy and of the Editorial Collection that this research center publishes with the Tirant Lo Blanch publishing house. She is a member of the National System of Researchers of the National Council of Science and Technology (Mexico) as Level I. Dr. Spigno has directed more than 40 collective works on various current topics related to human rights, including the rights of missing persons, gender violence, transparency and accountability, political rights and hate speech. In addition, he has published more than 55 book chapters in different collective works. In the same vein, he has published a self-authored book entitled "Discorsi d'odio. Modelli giurisprudenziali a confronto". She has published more than 15 articles in scientific journals indexed in three different languages. Dr. Spigno has supervised more than 10 theses and research works related to human rights issues. She has conducted research stays at universities and research centers in countries such as Italy, Spain, Germany, Australia and Mexico. She was awarded the "Recognition of the desirable profile for full-time professors PRODEP for the period 2020-2023" and the "Recognition of University Women 2020 in the category of "Teaching and Research" both by the Autonomous University of Coahuila. Dr. Spigno has taught in undergraduate and graduate programs in several countries such as Guatemala, Mexico and Italy, among others. She is a member of the "Association of Italian Researchers in Mexico", member of the Editorial Board of the "Revista Española de la Transparencia", member of ICON-S Mexico Chapter, participates in the research project "CORE Constitutional Reasoning in Latin America", from 2010 to date. Member of the research group of the International Association of Constitutional Law on "Cross-Judicial Fertilization - the Use of Foreign precedents by Constitutional Judges", among other research groups. In addition, in the last 5 years she has participated in more than 100 seminars, congresses, conferences and book presentations on topics related to human rights, women's rights, hate speech, comparative constitutional law, minority rights, among others. Finally, Dr. Spigno has been technically responsible for research projects funded by public entities such as the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) in Mexico, including the one funded under the "Call 2019-11 for the development of proposals for research and advocacy projects aimed at developing strategies to help address, prevent and eradicate structural violence in Mexico".
