Dr. Tafolla-Arellano is a Full-Time Research Professor C of the Departmento de Ciencias Básicas, Universidad Autónoma Agraria Antonio Narro (UAAAN). He is the founder and head of the Laboratory of Biotechnology and Molecular Biology-UAAAN. He served as the Head of the Scientific and Technological Journal of the Research Department at the UAAAN from 2022 to 2025. Additionally, from November 2022 to 2025, he served as the editor-in-chief of the scientific journals Universitas Agri (https://universitasagri.com) and Revista Agraria (Revista de Divulgación y Transferencia de Tecnología, https://www.revistaagraria.com). He previously served as associate editor of the same journal from 2021 to 2022. He is also a review editor in the area of plant physiology for the journal Frontiers in Plant Science (https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/plant-science). He has been a reviewer of different national scientific journals such as Revista Digital Universitaria, Journal of Bioprocess and Chemical Technology (JBCT), as well as international journals such as Catalysts, Horticulture, International Journal of Molecular Sciences, Current Issues in Molecular Biology, Molecules, Agronomy and Frontiers in Plant Science.
Dr. Tafolla-Arellano is a member of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Honor Society, and the National System of Researchers of Mexico, level I. His research focuses on the study of the biotechnological use of plants through an interdisciplinary approach of omics, biocatalysis, bioinformatics and molecular biology. He graduated as an engineer in Food Science and Technology at the Universidad Autónoma Agraria Antonio Narro. He earned his PhD. in Plant Physiology and Molecular Biology at the Centro de Investigación y Alimentación y Desarrollo A.C. in Sonora, Mexico. In addition, he conducted postdoctoral research on the postharvest shelf life of fruit and transcriptomic analysis.
