VALENCIA LEDEZMA, OMAR ESTEBAN

Obtained his Bachelor's degree in Biological Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Unidad Xochimilco (UAM-X), where he specialized in biotransformations and biocatalysis of pharmaceutical compounds. His work focused on the use of whole-cell systems and isolated enzymes to generate enantiomerically pure compounds of pharmacological interest.
Completed the Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences at UAM-X, where his research centered on the synthesis and evaluation of inosine-derived nucleoside analogs as precursors of bioactive compounds with potential pharmacological applications.

Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the same institution, focusing on the study of marine bacteria isolated from the Gulf of California. His doctoral research included phylogenetic identification, extraction and characterization of secondary metabolites with pharmacological activity, and the isolation and analysis of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), highlighting their potential in biomedical and biotechnological applications.

Subsequently, Im participated in a postdoctoral program funded by the Dirección General de Asuntos del Personal Académico (DGAPA), where contributed to a research project focused on molecular markers for the identification of clinically relevant Aspergillus species. This work was conducted in the Molecular Mycology Laboratory of the Department of Parasitology and Microbiology at the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), strengthening his expertise in molecular diagnostics and clinical microbiology.

My academic and research trajectory integrates biocatalysis, natural product chemistry, molecular microbiology, and applied biomedical research, with a strong emphasis on translational science and the development of solutions with clinical and biotechnological impact.
