The academic interests of Dr. Mejía-Méndez are centered on investigating the antimicrobial, anticancer, and antioxidant properties of plant extracts and isolated compounds from medicinal plants. In collaboration with ITESM, UDLAP, UNAM, UBC, and COLPOS researchers, he also investigates metal oxide, polysaccharides, and lanthanide-based nanomaterials with applications in agriculture, the food industry, electronics, and biomedicine. Currently, Dr. Mejía-Méndez is a Member of the National System of Researchers Level 1 (SNII 1).
