I got a doctorate in sciences in marine ecology in 2002 in Centro de Investigación Científica y de Educación Superior de Ensenada, CICESE in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. My work with sirenians started in 1990 as a research assistant. I am member of the Mexican Marine Mammalogy Society (SOMEMMA), which I presided from 2006 to 2008.
