PhD. Luis Joel Figueroa-Yáñez is Researcher class B, repatriated, belongs to the National System of Researchers (Level I), assigned to The Center for Research and Applied Technology in Jalisco (CIATEJ), México.
He has a Bachelor's degree in Biology from the Universidad Veracruzana, a Master's degree in Bioethics from the Universidad Anáhuac, a PhD in Biological Sciences from the Yucatán Scientific Research Center and a postdoctoral degree at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, St. Louis Missouri, United States of America.
It has publications on:
-CRISPR-Cas and pathogenic organisms
-Neural networks, deep learning and artificial intelligence in pancreatic cancer
-The DBTL paradigm in Synthetic Biology and Synthetic Biology and COVID-19
-Antioxidants and type 2 diabetes mellitus
-Improvement of plants to counteract the greenhouse effect and other factors
-CRISPR-Cas9 and dCas9 in yeast
It has been granted two national patents and two international patents related to “response to extreme temperatures in plants”.
Regarding the formation of human capital, he has graduated nine students, both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, he currently directs two doctoral students and two master's students, to date he is part of the tutorial committee of four postgraduate students. He has been responsible for Postdoctoral Researchers.
On the topic of dissemination, he has six articles and more than 50 conferences given in different forums, conferences, symposiums, colloquiums, etc.
Collaborations:
• With the Yucatán Scientific Research Center:
Frontera science project, called, “CpRAP2.4a: Transcription factor involved in the mitigation of thermal stress, to understand its long-distance transport mechanism in papaya sap”
• With the National Institute of Pediatrics:
Frontera science project, titled, “Identification of personalized biomarkers by deep learning methods applicable in the diagnosis and monitoring of medulloblastoma in pediatric populations.”
He is currently coordinator of the sub-line of research “Synthetic Biology” in the department of Industrial Biotechnology of the Center for Research and Assistance in Technology and Design of Jalisco State (CIATEJ), Zapopan headquarters and general coordinator of the National Network, “Connection in Synthetic Biology A.C.”
In his research group he carries out projects on:
-Next generation sequencing through technology (Oxford Nanopore Technologies) and analysis of omics data from different biological systems.
-Studies on nutrigenomics, molecules of interest and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
-Studies on the key paradigms in synthetic biology.
-Design of tools and development of biomaterials.
-Regulation of gene expression through the CRISPR-Cas system in bacteria, yeast, plants and human cell lines.
-Studies on the use of neural networks, deep learning, machine learning and artificial intelligence in pancreatic cancer and medulloblastoma.
-Studies for the prediction and clarification of the function of genes involved in abiotic stress in plants.
-Studies to improve cocoa pollination.
