Research Scientist at the Research Center for Food and Development (CIAD) in Hermosillo, Mexico, since 2005. She obtained her Ph.D. in France at Ecole Nationale Supérieure Agronomique à Montpellier, her MSc degree at CIAD, and her undergraduate degree at the University of Sonora in Mexico. Her research interests focus on biopolymers, mainly in extracting and characterizing polysaccharides from several sources, especially from co-products recovered from the food industry and agriculture. Dr. Carvajal-Millan studies polysaccharide-based biomaterials (gels, microspheres, nanospheres, and films) as functional systems in food, biotechnology, biomedicine, and pharmaceutical areas. Dr. Carvajal-Millan is a member of the National System of Researchers in Mexico (level 3, the maximum granted), a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences, and part of the Scientific Committee of La Maison Universitaire Franco-Mexicaine (MUFRAMEX). She is an Accredited Evaluator of the National Council for Science and Technology (CONACyT) in Mexico and part of the editorial committee of international scientific journals. She has 134 articles indexed, 48 book chapters, 3 granted patents, and 1 patent application. Dr. Carvajal-Millan has an H-Index of 26, and her publications have been cited 2344 times (without self-citations). She has supervised 11 Ph.D. theses, 8 M.Sc. theses, and 7 bachelor's degree theses, some of them awarded at the national or international level. First Place Prize Dr. Gastón Madrid-Sanchez. Biomedicine and Chemistry Area. Health Research Awards 2022 and 2020. Awarded by the Government of Sonora State and the Ministry of Public Health in Mexico. Cover Selected in J. Appl. Polym. Sci., Volume 135, Issue 27 (July 2018), https://doi.org/10.1002/app.46574. Best Poster Presentation. 5th European Polysaccharide Network of Excellence (EPNOE) International Polysaccharide Conference. Jenna, Germany. August 20-24, 2017. Sponsored by Carbohydrate Polymers, Elsevier. Poster: Characterization and in vitro evaluation of highly ferulated arabinoxylans microspheres as colon-targeted insulin delivery systems.
