Christof Sulzer is a lecturer and researcher at the National Autonomous University of Mexico in San Miguel de Allende, where he leads the BA in Translation and coordinates the Diploma in Translation Pedagogy and Didactics. His academic journey includes studies in translation, applied linguistics, and foreign language teaching at the undergraduate and master’s levels, and a PhD in Translation Studies from the University of Alicante, Spain.
In addition to his professional experience as a sworn translator, he has held teaching positions and administrative roles at various universities, contributing to the development of academic programs in translation. Among his professional affiliations are the UK’s Institute of Translation and Interpreting, the Ibero-American Terminology Network, and the National Consortium for Translation Studies in Mexican Higher Education. As a member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers, he has led research initiatives exploring dialogic teaching as well as situated and self-directed learning as possible pathways toward translator education.
His research has been featured in various peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes, and he has presented at numerous conferences, including invited lectures at Harvard University, the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Singapore’s Ministry of Education. At present, his research interests center on cognitive translation process research, the development and assessment of psycho-physiological translation competences, as well as the convergence of emerging translation technologies and human expertise.
