Luis Huesca obtained his doctorate in economics from the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona in 2005 and also his master's degree in applied economics from the same University in 2002. Bachelor's degree in economics with specialization in economic policy. Dr. Huesca is a level 2 member of the national system of researchers in the National Ministry of Sciences, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation (SECIHTI) in Mexico. He works at the Department of Economics of the Research Center for Food and Development A.C. His areas of expertise are public and health economics, income distribution, and labor economics. Huesca earned first place in the National Labor Research Prize with his doctoral thesis in 2006 in Mexico. He is currently working on the projects MEXMOD: Mexico’s tax-benefit microsimulation model (https://www.ciad.mx/mexmod/en.html); and The Impact of Tobacco Taxation in Mexico and Cessation : (https://www.ciad.mx/impuestosytabaco/). He teaches applied econometrics and public economics. Also, Professor Huesca serves as an advisor on inequality & poverty for the Council on Social Policy in the State of Mexico and conducts research on taxation, poverty analysis, discrimination, labor economics, and productivity. Dr. Huesca belongs to the editorial board of the Journal El Trimestre Económico.
