My research activities rely on understanding the genetic basis of common complex diseases and their related quantitative traits. I am the principal investigator of several ongoing projects (e.g., HPV molecular detection in women [Mestizos and Tarahumaras] and in HIV men from Chihuahua, Mx; Metabolic Syndrome risk factors among high school students: Mestizos, Tarahumaras and Mennonites from Chihuahua State, OCT1 polymorphisms in patients with diabetes type 2 (DT2) and AGTR polymorphisms in patients with DT2 with hypertension, ELMO1 polymorphisms in patients with DT2 with diabetic kidney disease and variants in ABCB1 and SLOC1B1 genes in patients with DT2 with astorvastatin treatment for dyslipidemia. I am a co-investigator of the Genetic Metabolism in Mexicans (GEMM study), San Antonio TX, with Dr. Bastarrachea. I also collaborate with other research professors from the University and external programs such as the Orthopaedic Residency program at Hospital Christus Muguerza del Parque, with Dr. Edmundo Berumen-Nafarrate, tutoring orthopedic resident´s thesis. I also have directed several ungraduated and postgraduate theses. I have an excellent ongoing collaboration with Dr. Dirk Christensen from Copenhagen University and Dr. Luis Camacho Silvas (a co-worker) in the Public Health teaching program receiving students from Denmark.
