AVILA CHAVEZ, EUCLIDES

Dr. Euclides Avila is a Chemist-Pharmacist-Biologist with a Master’s degree in Chemical Sciences specializing in Biochemistry and a Ph.D. in Sciences from the Faculty of Chemistry at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Pharmacology at the Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) in Mexico City from 2007 to 2008.

For over 26 years, Dr. Avila has been a researcher in the Department of Reproductive Biology at the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition Salvador Zubirán at Mexico City. His research focuses on gene expression regulation mediated by steroid hormones, vitamin D metabolites and prostaglandins in gynecological tumor models, such as cervical and breast cancer. A member of the National System of Researchers since 2005, he achieved Level 2 in 2018. He has mentored graduate students in Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacology at UNAM and IPN, respectively, and has supervised undergraduate theses at UNAM. As an adjunct professor at UNAM’s Faculty of Chemistry since 1997, he has taught Biochemistry and related courses for 28 years. Additionally, he has been a guest lecturer at IPN, UNAM, and La Salle University, participating in graduate and specialized courses in Pharmacology and Biochemistry.

Dr. Avila has published 63 peer-reviewed articles, three book chapters, and six dissemination pieces. He has presented at over 70 national and international conferences and served as a reviewer for some scientific journals. His work, with 3,266 citations and an h-index of 31 (Google Scholar, January 2025), reflects his significant contributions to science. Since 2022, he has also engaged in science communication through the digital newspaper Réplica de Guerrero.
