Dr. Álvarez holds a medical degree from the Instituto Politécnico Nacional, a Master’s in Public Health from the Instituto Nacional de Salud Pública, and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the University of Michigan, USA. He also completed a specialization in Bioethics at the Latin American Social Sciences Foundation (FLACSO) in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
For the past 18 years, he has served as a Full Professor and Researcher (Category “C”) in the Department of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Sonora. He is a Level 2 National Researcher within the National System of Researchers of the National Council for Humanities, Sciences, and Technologies (CONAHCYT). Additionally, he holds the PRODEP academic profile granted by the Ministry of Public Education. Between 1992 and 2020, he held various leadership and operational positions in public health and epidemiology within health institutions.
