ALEXANDERSON ROSAS, ERICK

Dr. Erick Alexanderson is currently the Head of the Department of Nuclear Cardiology at the National Institute of Cardiology "Ignacio Chávez" and served as the President of the Mexican Society of Cardiology during the period 2016-2018. He is currently the treasurer of the Inter-American Society of Cardiology.

At the American College of Cardiology, his notable achievements include being the first Mexican elected to the Government Committee (2019-2021), one of the most important governing bodies in the international field of cardiology. His leadership as the Governor of the Mexico Chapter (2011-2014) and Coordinator of the Latin American Chapter (2015-2017) also stands out. He currently serves as the Chief of the Assembly of International Governors and is a member of the membership and credentials committees.

As a researcher, he has published over 150 articles in level III, IV, and V scientific journals, with over 1,300 citations. He is the lead author of seven books and 38 chapters in other publications. Approximately 200 abstracts authored by him have been accepted in English and Spanish journals.

Due to his expert knowledge, Dr. Alexanderson is the first Mexican cardiologist to be part of the editorial group of JACC (JACC Cardiovascular Imaging), the most prestigious publication in this field. He is also a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Nuclear Cardiology, Global Heart, Current Cardiovascular Imaging Reports, Current Cardiology Reviews, and Archivos de Cardiología de México.

Through his international responsibilities, he has organized workshops to promote cooperation with various international chapters and conducted specific surveys to assess the treatment standards for acute myocardial infarction as a method to gather information on the differences in clinical approaches to patients in different regions of the world. The conclusions obtained from this project will be used to develop clinical guidelines and educational materials applicable to the particular characteristics of each region around the globe as issued by the ACC.

His contribution in the field of non-invasive diagnostics lies in his participation as an expert in international missions of the International Atomic Energy Agency of the United Nations (Vienna) to establish Nuclear Cardiology centers in Qatar and Lebanon, as well as his role as a professor in international courses in Latin America, the United States, Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Regarding his teaching work, he has been a full-time professor for over 35 years at the country's leading medical faculties, teaching undergraduate, medical specialties, master's, and doctoral courses.

As an opinion leader and generator of new knowledge in cardiology, he is frequently invited as a speaker to important meetings such as the European Society of Cardiology Congress, the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, and the Scientific Meeting of the Mexican Society of Cardiology. He has also participated in these events as an organizer and attendee.
