VILLEGAS CORTEZ, JUAN

Dr. Juan Villegas Cortez is a Full Professor at UAM Azcapotzalco, distinguishing himself in the fields of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision. Holding a Ph.D. and M.S. in Computer Science, underpinned by a B.S. in Applied Mathematics, his research integrates bio-inspired metaheuristics, statistical pattern recognition, and machine learning architectures to advance computational imaging and algorithmic solutions.

Recognized as a National Researcher (SNI Level 1) and holding the PRODEP desirable profile, Dr. Villegas maintains active membership in the IEEE, ACM, and SMIA. Notably, he served as Dean for the NASA LUNABOTICS competition, bridging academic theory with applied robotics engineering.

His scientific output comprises 76 internationally indexed publications and extensive participation in technical conferences. A prolific educator, he has delivered over 130 undergraduate and graduate courses and supervised numerous doctoral, master’s, and engineering theses, playing a pivotal role in training new investigators. He further contributes to the scientific ecosystem as a technical reviewer for high-impact journals and conference committees.
