Imperio Anel earned her bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from ITCM in 2006. She went on to receive her MSc degree in Advanced Technology in 2011 for CICATA-IPN, followed by a PhD in Applied Sciences from IPICYT, Mexico, in 2015. During her PhD studies, she completed an international research stay at Sun Moon University in South Korea, where she focused on investigating the degradation of pollutants in wastewater. In 2018, she also completed an International Postdoctoral Research program on electronic devices using 3D printing at the Microsystem Technological Laboratory at MIT.
Dr. Anel is a co-author of 18 scientific articles and co-inventor of a patent granted in Mexico and the USA. She has collaborated with Whirlpool Mexico to improve washing machine efficiency. Currently, she works as a research professor at the Accelerated Materials Development Unit of the Institute of Advanced Materials for Sustainable Manufacturing at Tecnológico de Monterrey. She is also a member of the National Researchers System of Mexico (SNI-Level I). Her research focuses on nanotechnology for advanced and sustainable materials, designing smart materials, electronic devices, semiconductors for environmental remediation, and additive manufacturing.
