MENDOZA MONTOYA, OMAR

Dr. Omar Mendoza is originally from Chihuahua, Mexico, where he attended Chihuahua Institute of Technology (ITCH) for his bachelor’s degree in electronics. He obtained his master’s degree in computer science from the Center for Research in Mathematics (CIMAT), Guanajuato, Mexico, and his Ph.D. degree in computer science from the Free University of Berlin, Germany.

He has over ten years of experience developing new statistical methods and machine learning techniques for analyzing biomedical signals. Simultaneously, Dr. Omar has developed different brain-computer interfaces for controlling electric wheelchairs, hand-orthosis, and other robotic systems. The purpose of these systems is to restore some mobility to people with severe neuromuscular disorders who cannot operate a device with joysticks or other peripherals.

His main research interests are numerical analysis, optimization, statistical learning, signal processing, mathematical modeling, and neuroimaging. At the moment, Dr. Omar Mendoza works as a research professor at ITESM campus Guadalajara, and he is in charge of the development of new brain-controlled systems for medical applications.
