Electronics engineer in industrial instrumentation (Tech Institute of Orizaba, Mexico), M.Sc. and PhD. in electrical and mechatronics (CINVESTAV-IPN, Mexico). Member of the National System of Researchers (CONAHCYT-Mexico), level 1. He has experience in electrical/instrumentation setups and maintenance in the industry. He is currently a full-time academic at the Universidad Iberoamericana Ciudad de México (IBERO) and Director of the Division of Science, Art and Technology (DICAT) in charge of the Departments related to architecture, design (products, textile-fashion, sensory, interactive), engineering (civil, physics, chemistry, food processes, industrial, mechanical-electrical, biomedical, mechatronics, computer-telecommunications, data science), actuary, environmental sustainability and the Institute of Applied Research and Technology (INIAT).
His research work is about the modeling and nonlinear control applied to mobile robots (terrestrial and aerial) and the motion coordination of groups of robots (formation control, flocking, collision avoidance, coverage, etc.). Also, he extends the theory of multi-agent system to the context of manufacturing cells (discrete-event systems), traffic networks, smart grids, distributed thermodynamical systems, voting methods, among others. He has published in journals and specialized conferences on control systems, robotics and automation. He has advised 10 doctoral thesis, 8 master’s thesis and more than 25 bachelor´s projects in mechatronics. He has been a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the International Society of Automation (ISA). Moreover, he leads a research network on mobile robots in Mexico, Canada and Latin America (mainly in Uruguay and Colombia). Finally, he has worked in different technological developments on mobile robots for teaching purposes or industrial applications, and drones for surveillance and cartography with research funds from IBERO and the Mexican government.
