Luis M. Castro obtained his bachelor's degree from the Morelia Technological Institute in 2006 with specializing in electrical power systems. He completed a master's degree in electrical power systems in the postgraduate programme of the same institution between 2006 and 2008, focusing on the Technical requirements for the interconnection of wind farms in the Mexican power system. This research topic was developed at the National Centre for Energy Control (CENACE). From 2009 to 2013, he carried out doctoral studies at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo (UMSNH), with a research topic related to the Modelling of Wind Generators for Power Flows and Dynamic Simulations. From 2012 to 2015. he participated as an assistant professor/researcher at Tampere University of Technology, Finland. At this university, he completed a second doctorate with a research topic related to the Modelling of Multi-terminal VSC-HVDC Links for Power Flows and Dynamic Simulations of AC/DC Power Networks.
Regarding industrial experience, Luis M. Castro worked between 2008-2009 at General Electric where he focused on the development of cogeneration sources of electrical energy. In addition, he has served as a consultant and trainer for the National Electric Energy Company (ENEE) of Honduras and for the Regional Operator Entity (EOR) of Central America on several occasions, on issues related to the simulation, simulation, operation and analysis of practical networks.
He has served as Independent Consultant of the Subsidiary Productive Company - Federal Electricity Commission (CFE - Distribution). Currently, he serves as a full-time Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and is member of the National System of Researchers (SNII) of CONAHCyT in Mexico, producing several products of scientific interest, including indexed journals, conferences, books and book chapters. His main research interests revolve around AC/DC power systems integrating renewable energy sources.
