I am Dr. Jimmy Emmanuel Ramos Valencia, a Mexican social researcher with an interdisciplinary background in anthropology, social sciences, and development studies. I hold a Ph.D. in Global Development Studies from the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC), a Master's degree in Social Sciences from the University of Quintana Roo, and a Bachelor's degree in Social Anthropology from the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán.
Since 2022, I have served as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Public Administration Studies at El Colegio de la Frontera Norte (El Colef), under the SECIHTI program (Strengthening Educational and Human-Technological Infrastructure). I am a member of the Mexican National System of Researchers (SNI, Level C), where I actively contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge on public policy and social development in border regions.
My academic work focuses on the intersection of public policy, migration, human security, and border governance. My research explores the experiences of marginalized populations and how state institutions respond to their needs in complex transborder settings. I have completed research residencies in Germany and France, enriching my approach with comparative and international perspectives.
My scholarly output includes peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and academic books published by both national and international publishers. I regularly participate as a reviewer in national research calls and academic journals and have been involved in interdisciplinary projects linking academia with social transformation.
Currently, my research is embedded in the National Strategic Program for Human Security (PRONACE) led by CONAHCYT. I work on participatory evaluation, feminist research, and social intervention strategies in Priority Attention Zones (ZAP) in northern Mexico, with a focus on the empowerment and protection of women migrants, working mothers, and displaced populations.
In addition to my research, I teach courses on Contemporary World History and Global Governance at the School of Economics and International Relations (FEYRI) at UABC. Teaching allows me to train future professionals in critical thinking, academic rigor, and social responsibility.
In recent years, I have expanded my expertise through formal training in artificial intelligence, particularly Generative AI and prompt engineering. I have earned certifications from IBM and Coursera in areas such as Foundation Models, Human-Centered AI Design, and Generative AI Applications. These skills have enabled me to incorporate AI tools into my research practices — including automated qualitative coding, visualization, and scenario simulations in public policy.
I believe that AI, when critically and ethically applied, has the potential to enhance social research and expand the horizons of collaborative knowledge production. I advocate for a dialogue between technology and the social sciences that is grounded in justice, equity, and inclusion.
My academic mission is to produce critical, engaged, and impactful knowledge. I strive to ensure that my work contributes to both scholarly debates and real-world solutions for the most pressing challenges facing border communities and vulnerable populations.
