BUENO JIMENEZ, ALFREDO

Doctor in History from the University of Granada, Spain (2014). He also obtained a Master's degree in History and Museology from the University of Granada (2011) and a Bachelor's degree in History from the same university (2008). He has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Research on Latin America and the Caribbean (CIALC) at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He has delivered lectures and presented papers at various national and international forums and has published numerous articles in specialized journals.

Among his recent publications, notable works include the book edited with Manuel Gámez Casado titled "Un mar de encuentros. El Caribe: arte, sociedad y cultura (siglos XV-XVII)" (Madrid: Ediciones Complutense, 2023); "The Common Black-Eared Opossum in the Symbolic and Iconographic Universe. From the Effigy Ornaments in the Lesser Antilles to the European Graphics of Simivulpa and its Variants in the 16th-17th Centuries" (2023); "Primeras resistencias indígenas y conquistas castellanas en la isla de La Española: de la batalla campal de la Vea Real a las resistencias de Higüey y Xaragüá, 1495-1505" (2023); "Pertrechos, rescates y matalotajes desde Cuba: bienes de consumo y cultura material de las huestes conquistadoras, 1517-1519" (2023); "El manatí en los imaginarios europeos. De las iconografías naturalistas de Oviedo y Clusius a las transfiguraciones fantasiosas de Wolfgan Kilian, Jacob van Meurs y Pieter van der Aa" (2023); "El uso militar del perro europeo por las huestes castellanas durante la conquista de La Española, 1495-1505" (2022); "Patrones y estrategias de intercambio entre europeos y americanos durante el primer viaje colombino, 1492-1493" (2022).

He has served as a referee and evaluator for various specialized journals and publishers in the fields of Modern History and Insular Caribbean, such as Historia Caribe from the Universidad Atlántico, Historia de América from the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (IPGH), Studia Histórica: Historia Moderna from the University of Salamanca, Chronica Nova from the University of Granada, and Editorial Universidad de Cádiz, among others.

He is a member of the research group "Eastern Andalusia and its relationship with America in the Modern Age" at the University of Granada, Spain. He is also a full member of the Ibero-American Research Network on Imaginary and Representation (RIIR). Among his main lines of research are historical and cultural processes in the Antillean island framework (15th-16th centuries), and European imaginaries and their projection towards the Antillean space (15th-17th centuries). He is currently a co-organizer of the Seminar '29 Years Before: Encounter of Two Worlds'. He is also a member of the National System of Researchers (SNI) of the National Council of Humanities, Sciences, and Technologies (Conahcyt) of Mexico. He served as coordinator of the Bachelor's degree in History (2016-2023) and the Master's degree in Ancient Cultures at Anahuac University Mexico (2021-2023). Currently, he is a Research Professor at the Faculty of Education and Humanities at Anahuac University Mexico and adjunct professor at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
