MARTINEZ DE LA VEGA Y MANSILLA, VERONICA

I completed my PhD in 2002, under the supervision of the Polish Topology Researcher and Professor Janusz J Charatonik. I worked as a Full Professor-Researcher at UAM-Iztapalapa (2002-2003), and completed a postdoctoral degree at California State University at Sacramento in 2004. Since 1998, I have been a professor at the Faculty of Sciences at UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) and a researcher at the Institute of Mathematics since 2005. I have been awarded a level III SNI since January 2021; I have received the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz award on 2017 and was chosen to be a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences in 2018.

I have published 43 research articles in international peer-reviewed indexed journals (on Continuum Theory, Hyperspaces, and Dynamical Systems), I have supervised two doctoral theses, three master's theses, eight bachelor's theses, and three dissertations; I am currently supervising one doctoral theses and two bachelor's theses. I have also completed 16 research visits at institutions in the United States, Canada, Slovenia, New Zealand, and Poland, as well as two sabbatical stays at Tulane University (2013) and Baylor University (2022). I have given more than 100 presentations at conferences and colloquia (60 international, 30 national, and 20 in other venues) and organized 29 scientific events, confirming my commitment to academic outreach and collaboration.

Since January 2024, I have served as a delegate for the OMMEB and OMM CDMX, (Mathematics Olympiads for elementary, junior high and high school students at Mexico City) and have participated in collegiate committees such as the CAACFMI and the UNAM University Council. Currently, I am a POC (Orientation Person of the Community) and a member of the CInIG, (Internal Council for Gender Equality at Instituto de matemáticas, UNAM) promoting the construction of an inclusive and dynamic university environment. My interest lies in strengthening the mathematical community and fostering equity in academic spaces.

On a personal level, I am the mother of two youngsters, ages 19 and 21, an experience that has enriched my teaching perspective. I enjoy exchanging ideas with my students, whom I consider essential for mutual growth. I am interested in research on gender equity and discrimination, with the goal of contributing to the eradication of gender-based violence. My hobbies include reading, theater, swimming, and hiking, which allow me to balance my professional and personal life.
