MARTINEZ ALDAMA, MARY LOLI

My research focuses on understanding the dynamical and physical properties of the emitting gas around supermassive black holes in Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN), as well as their use in Cosmology. I have a wide experience in data reduction, fitting, and analysis of photometric and spectroscopic data from UV to NIR range using instruments at ground-based telescopes such as Gran Telescopio de Canarias (GTC), Very Large Telescope (VLT), Magellan Telescopes (MG), and Southern Astrophysical Research Telescope (SOAR). I also have experience in the use of large databases such as the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF). I am a member of Sloan Digital Sky Survey V in the Black Hole Mapper Team and a member of the Committee On INclusiveness (COINS, SDSS-V), as well as a member of AGN Science Collaboration in the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST). I also have experience as a mentor, my first master’s student got the degree in July 2021 with honors and he was a candidate for the Alfonso Caso medal (UNAM). Throughout my postdoc career, I have been also supporting the research of master’s and Ph.D. students of my former institutions. I have a wide experience in outreach and education activities from a multicultural and multidisciplinary point of view. I belong to a Nahua community in Puebla, so I am also interested in inclusion and equity. In 2015. I obtained a grant to implement an educational and outreach project in my community. In 2025, I was awarded the "Mexicanos Distinguidos" Prize by the Government of Mexico. I am currently an associate professor in the Department of Astronomy, Universidad de Concepción, Chile.
