FERRARI, LUCA

Ph.D. in Earth Sciences from the University of Milan with a postdoctoral degree at the UNAM where he joined in 1995. Currently, Senior Researcher at the UNAM Institute of Geoscience, Juriquilla campus, of which he was also director from 2002 to 2010. He is National Researcher Level III, a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences, and Fellow of the Geological Society of America, and has been President of the Mexican Geophysical Union. In 2015 he won the National University Award in the category of Exact Sciences Research. He is presently one of the coordinators of the National Strategic Program on Energy and Climate Change of CONACYT.

Its main research topic is the regional geology, tectonics, and geodynamics of the main magmatic provinces of Mexico, with applications for geothermal and mining exploration. Since 2005, he also began to study the national and global energy system and the implication for the future and sustainability. He has delivered dozens of invited conferences at public and private universities and research centers in Mexico.

He has published 130 scientific papers, which have been cited over 9,000 times. He is professor at Postgraduate and Undergraduate level at UNAM.
