Jorge Noé Díaz de León Hernández is a Full-time Research Scientist (Level B permanent) at the Center for Nanosciences and Nanotechnology of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where he has been affiliated since 2017.
Also, he is a member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SNII) with the distinction of Level II (valid until 2027). Within UNAM, he has served as Coordinator of the Undergraduate Program in Nanotechnology and Academic Secretary. He is also a member of the Evaluation Committee for the Physical-Mathematical Sciences and Engineering Area of UNAM.
Externally, he serves as the Mexico coordinator for the Ibero-American Network for the Development of Catalysts and Sustainable Processes for Hydrogen Production (CYTED, 725RT0179). He currently serves as Vice President of the Ibero-American Federation of Catalysis Societies (FISOCAT) for the 2022–2026 term and as Mexico’s delegate to the International Association of Catalysis Societies (IACS).
He was born in Mexico City and holds a Chemical Engineering degree, as well as M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM 1999–2010). His doctoral studies were conducted within the France–Mexico Graduate Cooperation Program (PCP) in collaboration with the Institute of Research on Catalysis and Environment of Lyon (IRCELyon), France. He later completed two postdoctoral fellowships at UNAM, working on projects related to the production of ultra-clean hydrocarbons. Recently, he received the Academic Career Recognition Award for Alumni of the UAM (2024).
• He served as Secretary, Vice President, and subsequently President of the Mexican Catalysis Academy between 2019 and 2025.
• He has published 108 articles in indexed international journals, accumulating more than 2,500 citations and an H-index of 27.
• He has supervised 14 undergraduate, 12 master’s, and 5 Ph.D. graduates students.
• He has taught more than 30 courses at several academic institutions, including UAM-I, CICESE, CNyN-UNAM, Universidad Industrial de Santander (Colombia), and Universidad de Concepción (Chile).
• He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Chemical Engineering and Renewable Fuels and has served as Guest Editor for Frontiers in Materials, Journal of the Mexican Chemical Society, Topics in Catalysis, and Catalysis Today.
• He has one technological development and two patents, one national and one international (USA).
He maintains national and international research collaborations with institutions such as the University of Concepción (Chile), Universidad Industrial de Santander (Colombia), the Institute of Catalysis and Petrochemistry in Madrid (Spain), and the University of Genoa (Italy).
His research interests focus on the synthesis, characterization, and catalytic evaluation of nanostructured and mixed-oxide materials for reactions including hydrodesulfurization, alcohol dehydration, water–gas shift, CO₂ hydrogenation, and photocatalytic degradation of emerging pharmaceuticals and recalcitrant compounds.
