Dr. Rafael Bayareh Mancilla holds two doctoral degrees: a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, specializing in Bioelectronics, from CINVESTAV-IPN, Mexico, and a Ph.D. in Automation, Signal and Image Processing, and Computer Science from Université de Lorraine, France. He also completed a national postdoctoral research fellowship at UPIITA-IPN. He currently serves as a faculty member at UPIITA-IPN and Universidad Anáhuac Oaxaca and teaches in graduate programs at CINVESTAV.
His research interests include medical signal and image processing, quantitative thermography, artificial intelligence for computer-aided diagnosis, and the development of medical and biomimetic robotic systems for the assessment and management of chronic degenerative diseases. He is Principal Investigator and Technical Lead of a SIP-IPN-funded research project focused on biomimetic robotics and also participates as an external academic collaborator in a UNAM PAPIIT project on cardiac function assessment.
Dr. Bayareh Mancilla has authored and co-authored scientific articles published in international peer-reviewed journals, including Q1-ranked publications, as well as book chapters. He has contributed to more than a dozen papers presented at international Biomedical Engineering conferences and has served as an editor of two Springer-published conference proceedings volumes. He is also an active reviewer for journals published by Springer Nature, Elsevier, IEEE, MDPI, Bentham Science, QIMS, AME Publishing, and Taylor & Francis, and has participated in scientific committees and the organization of national and international conferences.
He holds one patent and four software intellectual property registrations. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE, a member of the IPN Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Network and the IPN Robotics and Mechatronics Experts Network, and a collegiate member of the Mexican College of Biomedical Engineers. He is also a Level Candidate member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SNII) under SECIHTI.
His academic activities include supervising and co-supervising theses and degree projects at CINVESTAV, Tecnológico de Monterrey, and UPIITA-IPN. His teaching career has been recognized by Universidad del Valle de México through the Master Lince distinction in two consecutive years and by UPIBI-IPN for outstanding academic performance.
