Professor Josué Álvarez-Borrego. Born in Mazatlan Sinaloa. He studied for his bachelor's degree at the Faculty of Marine Sciences, and his master's and doctorate at CICESE. It is level 3 in the National System of Researchers. It has 101 indexed articles and 95 memories of conferences. He has participated in national and international conferences with more than 234 presentations. He has graduated Seventeen doctoral students, 19 students master's and ten bachelor's degrees. It has several chapters and is the Editor of a book compendium of his work with colleagues and students. He has been Co-Editor of a particular issue in Applied Optics. He is a member Editor of several international magazines. He is a referee of multiple high-impact scientific journals. He has received some prizes for his scientific work. Member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences since 1998. It has been Professor-Guest of several National Universities. He has taught more than 123 courses at postgraduate and about 100 courses at the undergraduate level. Vice President and President of the
Mexican Academy of Optics in 2017-2018 and 2019-2020, respectively. He has
directed several internal and external projects (with funds from Conacyt). He was part of the project international SCOR WG130 with title Automatic Visual Plankton Identification and financed by SCOR and the National Science Foundation. He was Head of the Optics Department of the Division of Applied Physics at Cicese from November 1989 to June 1992. His lines of research have been image processing and pattern recognition.
