Camelia Tigau studied journalism at the Universities of Bucharest (Romania), Utrecht (Netherlands), and Aarhus (Denmark) before completing her PhD at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Her academic work focuses on the migration of professionals, covering relevant aspects such as medical migration, scientific diasporas, and the responsibility to protect migrants. She is a senior researcher at CISAN, a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences, and a member of the National System of Researchers (Level II). She is Vice President of the Global Research Forum on Diasporas and Transnationalism (GRFDT, India). She teaches at the Graduate Program in Political and Social Sciences at UNAM. She has recently founded the Laboratory for Analysis on Communication of Diaspora Diplomacy in North America (Coddan Lab) with Juan Carlos Barrón Pastor. She coordinates the collective research project ¨Communication and Diaspora Diplomacy. Perspectives From the Contexts of Reception in the Americas, Europe, and Asia¨, with funding from DGAPA - UNAM. Her most recent authored book is: ¨Exilio Intelectual en la Norteamérica del Siglo XXI¨. Tomo I, Canada (CISAN/UNAM, 2025, reprinted in 2026).
