Dr. Yedith B. Guillén-Fernández is an academic researcher in the area of Health Economics at the UNAM Institute of Economic Research and tutor of the postgraduate programme in Economics, where she teaches topics on Health Economics, Poverty and Well-being.
She has a PhD in Social Policy from the Townsend Center for International Poverty Research and the School for Policy Studies at the University of Bristol, England, where she also completed a Master of Philosophy program focused on research methods. She also studied a Master research program in Demography at El Colegio de México.
She did a postdoctoral research stay at UNAM on the topic of child poverty and health deprivation, as well as a diploma course on "human rights indicators".
She is an economist by training and has specialized in the topics of Health Economics and multidimensional poverty. She has worked on research projects and research stays at UNAM; the Asia Development Institute, Seoul National University, South Korea; the University of Gothenburg, Sweden; the University of Bristol, England; the University College of Ireland; CLEAR in Mexico and the Mexican Academy of Sciences.
In the field of teaching, Dr. Guillén-Fernández has also taught courses and lectures at Princeton University, the University of Bristol and the National University of Seoul. She has also carried out projects on malnutrition and health deprivation and has presented them at scientific congresses, such as in Strasbourg with academics in the European Parliament; at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in the Dominican Republic; in The Comparative Research Program on Poverty (CROP), among others. She has published these research projects in articles for peer review journals and book chapters in English and Spanish languages.
She is member of the National System of Researchers (SNI) of Conacyt in Mexico.
On the other hand, she was director of Poverty Measurement Standards and Methodologies at Coneval, where she carried out studies and research on “Effective Access to Health” and "Multidimensional Poverty". She is currently leading a research project PAPIIT (Programa de Apoyo a Proyectos de Investigación e Innovación Tecnológica, Support Program for Research and Technological Innovation Projects) at UNAM on the topic of "Socioeconomic and poverty factors determining health".
