Maria Mercedes Ruiz Muñoz es Doctora en Ciencias con la especialidad en investigaciones educativas, investigadora del Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (SNI-II), Investigadora honoraria de la Universidad Iberoamericana, Ciudad de México, integrante del proyecto Alternativas Pedagógicas y Prospectiva Educativa en América Latina. Profesora e investigadora del derecho a la educación, la política y la justicia escolar en la Universidad Iberoamericana y la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.

La línea de investigación en la que inscribe sus trabajos se intitula: El derecho a la educación, la política y la justicia escolar. Publicaciones más recientes: An Interview with Angelo Cabrera (2023); La narrativa y sus aportes a la construcción del conocimiento social (2023); Narrativas del derecho a la educación superior en contextos migratorios (2022); Derecho a la educación superior en contextos migratorios: narrativa, diálogo y construcción discursiva (2022) y, Actores pedagógicos y empoderamiento social. Un análisis de las prácticas pedagógicas freirianas (2021).

Realizó estancias de investigación en Athens State University, Wisconsin-Madison University, Northern Illinois University and The City University New York, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto, Universidad de Sao Paulo, Brasil y Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina e intercambio académico con España.

Entre las distinciones recibidas destacan: Investigadora honoraria (2024) por la Universidad Iberoamericana, Senadora Universitaria por la Universidad Iberoamericana (2022-2023), Mérito Universitario Bárbara Andrade por la Universidad Iberoamericana, (2020), Premio Pablo Latapí sobre Investigación Educativa. Primera edición, con el trabajo “La Secundaria para Trabajadores vista a través de sus estudiantes: voces de la exclusión desde la otra educación” (UNAM), en 2011; Obtención de la Cátedra Andrés Bello. Maria Mercedes Ruiz Muñoz is a Doctor of Science with a specialty in educational research, a researcher at the National System of Researchers (SNI-II), an honorary researcher at the Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico City, and a member of the Pedagogical Alternatives and Educational Prospective project in Latin America. She is a professor and researcher of the right to education, politics and school justice at the Universidad Iberoamericana and the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

The line of research in which she inscribes her work is titled: The right to education, politics and school justice. Most recent publications: An Interview with Angelo Cabrera (2023); Narrative and its contributions to the construction of social knowledge (2023); Narratives of the right to higher education in migration contexts (2022); Right to higher education in migratory contexts: narrative, dialogue and discursive construction (2022) and, Pedagogical actors and social empowerment. An analysis of Freirian pedagogical practices (2021).
