Agricultural Engineer (parasitologist) from the Autonomous University of Chiapas; Master in Science (entomology) from the Postgraduate College; Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) from Oxford University, UK. He has been a visiting researcher at Pennsylvania State University and Texas A & M University. His research includes basic and applied aspects of insect-plant interactions and the chemical ecology of tropical insects. He has led research tending to identify pheromones and attractants of insects of agricultural importance, such as the cabbage moth (Copitarsia decolora), the agave weevil (Schyphophorus acupunctatus), and Anastrepha fruit flies. He is a member of the National System of Researchers, the Mexican Academy of Sciences, the Entomological Society of America, and the International Society of Chemical Ecology.
