In 2009 he made a Postdoctoral stay at the Faculty of Chemistry of the UNAM, in the Experimental Microbiology laboratory at CU in Mexico City, D.F., with the theme "Purification of water contaminated with lindane through the use of artificial wetlands". In 2007 he obtained the degree of Doctor of Sciences with a specialty in Biotechnology and Bioengineering at the Zacatenco unit of the CINVESTAV-IPN in Mexico City, D.F., with the thesis "Comparison of two post-treatment systems for anaerobic effluent from the industry of cellulose and paper using immobilized Trametes versicolor”. The degree of Master of Science in Biotechnology and Bioengineering was obtained in 2003 at the Zacatenco unit of the CINVESTAV-IPN in Mexico City, D.F., with the thesis "Post-treatment of effluents from the pulp and paper industry in an aerobic reactor of bed packed by mushrooms immobilized on wooden support. He obtained the title of Biochemical Engineer at the Veracruz Technological Institute in 1999, with the thesis "Technical-economic study for the implementation of a fishmeal production plant."
He is currently Professor-Researcher "C" holder. Dr. Ortega-Clemente's research is oriented to the treatment of industrial wastewater, management and improvement of water quality in aquaculture crops, cultivation of microalgae in aquaculture residual effluents for the production of lipids, carbohydrates, quantification of fatty acids and sugars. with potential in the production of biofuels (biodiesel and bioethanol); as well as the restoration of aquifers contaminated with pesticides, using artificial wetlands as a treatment system. His research is carried out mainly in the Laboratories: "Microalgae and Bioenergy Biotechnology Laboratory" of which he was the founder and "Aquaculture Biotechnology Research Laboratory (LIBA)".
