OLVERA VARGAS, MIGUEL

I am Senior Researcher at the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources, Universidad de Guadalajara, Mexico. I am forester and forest ecologist with particular interest in silviculture and long-term forest ecology through the monitoring of permanent plots, mainly in oak-Quercus dominated forests. I have also conducted research in mountain mesophytic forests, pine and mangrove forest ecosystems. My research activities address how diversity is maintained in species-rich ecosystems; and what is the role of spatio-temporal environmental variation in structuring forest communities.

In addition, a have actively contributed with long-term research in the study of patterns in vegetation at temporal and spatial scales through paleoecology. Particular emphasis has been given to understand how past anthropogenic activities and climate changes have impacted biological diversity, species distributions and community assembly during the Holocene.
