Principal Investigator in Plant Genetics | Plant Breeding | Sustainable Agricultural Biotechnology

I am currently a Principal Investigator at CIATEJ (Centro de Investigación y Asistencia en Tecnología y Diseño del Estado de Jalisco), Southeast Unit, where I lead research programs in plant breeding focused on improving crop resilience to climate change, enhancing tolerance to abiotic stress, and promoting sustainable agriculture through innovative genetic strategies.

I hold a Ph.D. in Plant Biotechnology from CINVESTAV and have built a research career centered on understanding the molecular mechanisms that regulate root development and nutrient use efficiency. My work integrates genetics, transcriptomics, gene editing, and high-throughput root phenotyping.

I previously worked as a researcher at the Global Institute for Food Security in Canada, served as a visiting professor at the University of Saskatchewan, and collaborated with the USDA in the United States. I am currently a member of the Mexican National System of Researchers (SNII, Candidate level) and an external graduate professor.

I have authored over 15 peer-reviewed publications, including papers in PNAS, Journal of Experimental Botany, and Plant Communications. I have served as guest editor and reviewer for high-impact journals, and I actively mentor students at undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. levels.

My vision is to contribute to the development of next-generation crops by applying advanced biotechnology tools and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration to address global agricultural challenges.
