LEDESMA MIRAMONTES, ALEJANDRO

I am a researcher in the Maize Breeding Program at the National Institute of Forestry, Agricultural, and Livestock Research (INIFAP), assigned to the Centro Altos de Jalisco Experimental Station, located in Tepatitlán, Jalisco, Mexico.

I hold a degree in Agronomy with a specialization in Crop Science from the Autonomous University of Chapingo (UAch), a Master’s in Genetic Resources and Productivity from the Postgraduate College (CP), and a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding from Iowa State University (ISU).

My work in the Maize Breeding Program has been focused on genetic improvement, where I have been responsible for and co-responsible for various research projects. These projects include the development of inbred lines and the creation of new maize hybrids with white, yellow, and pigmented kernels, adapted to Mexico’s subtropical regions. My research aims to enhance grain and forage yield potential, incorporate genetic resistance to major pests and diseases, and ensure high industrial grain quality.

I have also worked as an adjunct professor in the Sustainable Agricultural Innovation Engineering program, teaching undergraduate courses in the Instituto Tecnologico Superior de Jalisco (ITSJ).
