Professor Fernando Díaz leads the Marine Freshwater Ecophysiology Group within the Marine Biotechnology Department (CICESE). He holds a Bachelor's degree in Biology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, a Master's degree in Ecophysiology of aquatic organism's from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, a Ph.D. from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Professor Díaz is an inter-disciplinary researcher interested in Aquaculture, Marine Biotechnology of aquatic organisms. Her research centers on understanding the complex interactions between organisms and their environments in controlled conditions. Her research group is pioneering ecophysiology and aquaculture research using innovative approaches. Most notably, Prof. Díaz has produced 150 publications on ecophysiology, functional genomics, and aquaculture, especially mollusks, crustacean, and fish. He also focuses on emerging new species such as abalone, scallops, and geoduck, visualizing the synergistic effect of climate change, acidification and hypoxia of the ocean on different physiological responses and gene expression.
