Researcher at the Nanosciences and Nanotechnology Center at the National Autonomous University (UNAM).
Chemical Engineer from the National University of Colombia. Master's and Ph.D. in Biochemical Sciences at the Institute of Biotechnology of the National Autonomous University (UNAM) in México under the supervision of Prof. Enrique Galindo. He has worked as a Professor-researcher at the National University of Colombia and as a Principal Cell Culture Scientist at Probiomed S.A. de C.V. (a Mexican company working on recombinant proteins). Additionally, he served as a Permanent Member of the Subcommittee for the Evaluation of Biotechnological Products and as an Invited Member of the New Molecules Committee of the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (COFEPRIS, Mexico). From 2009 to 2024, Dr. Trujillo-Roldán was a Senior Researcher at the Biomedical Research Institute of the UNAM. Dr. Trujillo is a member of the National System of Researchers at Level 2 and is part of the UNAM Full-Time Academic Staff Performance Bonus Program (PRIDE, Level D, the highest). He is a Member of the Committee on Biotechnological Products of the Mexican Pharmacopeia.
Dr. Trujillo-Roldán is the author of 69 indexed articles with more than 2,950 citations, one patent, and four book chapters. In addition, he is the author of six Technological Developments. He has collaborated with companies in the biotechnology sector, signing more than 15 collaboration agreements and confidentiality agreements and delivering the corresponding technical reports. He has supervised 21 bachelor's theses, 11 master's theses, and 5 Ph.D. theses. He directs two undergraduate theses, one master's, and eight doctoral theses.
He has received distinctions, including the "Best Degree Work" award from Colombia's Professional Council of Chemical Engineering. He received a special mention for the "Best Doctoral Thesis in Biotechnology, Professor Dr. Ezio Emiliani" by the Universidad Nacional del Litoral in Argentina, as well as the "Recognition Distinction of the National Autonomous University of Mexico for Young Academics" in Technological Innovation and Industrial Design. His students have received awards such as "Honorable Mention for the best master’s thesis, "Alfredo Sánchez Marroquín award, on two occasions, the award for social service, "Gustavo Baz Prada-UNAM," Meritorious Theses, and the Alfonso Caso-UNAM medal.
His academic interests focus on bioprocess engineering, particularly on mass, heat, and momentum transfer in fermentation processes and their scale-up to industrial levels.
