RIOS CHAVEZ, PATRICIA

Since 2004, I have served as a professor and researcher at Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolas de Hidalgo (UMSNH). Starting in 2015, my research has focused on the Callistemon citrinus plant, exploring its antimicrobial effects against human pathogens, antioxidant properties, hepatoprotective benefits, ability to reduce colon cancer tumors, anti-obesogenic activity, anti-inflammatory effects, and capacity to reduce oxidative stress. Additionally, I have characterized its chemical composition, including terpenes and phenols.

Because of the low bioavailability and absorption of plant extracts, we developed a formulation of phytosomes loaded with the extract of Callistemon citrinus and have been studying their effects on oxidative stress and inflammation caused by obesity.

I have a patent pending for the formulation of Callistemon citrinus phytosomes, dated March 4, 2024, with formal examination approved on June 5, 2024.

I have been a founding member of the Michoacán Academy of Sciences A.C. since 2008, and I have served as a Researcher for the State of Michoacán since 2007. I am a member of the Mexican Association of Biochemistry and the Mexican Association of Research in Natural Products, A.C. (AMIPRONAT). I am also part of the National System of Researchers (SNI-1).

The total number of articles published in indexed journals is 21, with six in Q1, 11 in Q2, and 1 in Q3 in Scopus. According to JCR, seven articles are in Q1, four in Q2, five in Q3, and five in Q4. So far, I have supervised 2 PhD theses, 8 Master's theses, and 47 Bachelor's theses, of which 45 were for the Bachelor's degree in Biology and two were for the Bachelor's degree in Chemical-Pharmacobiology.
