PEDRAZA ESCALONA, MARIA MARTHA

Dr. Martha Pedraza is National Council for Science and Technology (CONACyT)-Research Fellow commissioned to the National School of Biological Sciences (ENCB) of the National Polytechnic Institute in Mexico City since November 2018. She is a member of the National System of Researchers (SNI) Level I and a visiting professor in the Department of Immunology of the ENCB of the IPN.

She is a Biological Pharmaceutical Chemist (1999) and Doctorate in Biomedical Sciences (2008) from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). During her PhD studies, in the Lab of the Professor Adela Rodríguez-Romero at the Chemistry Institute of UNAM, she focused on the analysis of B-cell antibodies that recognize different allergens. She carried out two postdoctoral researchers in the areas of Toxinology (in the Possani-Postay´s Lab) and Neuroimmunobiology (in the Pérez-Martínez´s Lab) at the Biotechnology Institute of UNAM, analyzing the effects of scorpion toxins and plant secondary metabolites as agents with therapeutic potential against different diseases using in vivo and in vitro models.

Dr. Pedraza has published 23 articles in indexed and refereed international journals. (Google Scholar :Cites 565; h index:14; i10 index:17). She has published 15 divulgation articles, one book chapter, and one patent granted in Mexico and in the USA. She has obtained funding to conduct independent research at the national level. She has directed undergraduate and graduate students.

Currently, she is focused on the selection of human antibodies against different diseases through the immortalization of B cells and phage display technologies. She is the Academic Liaison Officer in the Unit of Development and Research in Biotherapeutics (UDIBI) in the ENCB of IPN.
