Marine ecologist dedicated to establishing robust baselines for the conservation of marine megafauna by examining their responses to environmental and ecological drivers across multiple spatial and temporal scales. My research focuses on species distribution, abundance, population dynamics, and movement patterns. In our laboratory, we analyze these processes by estimating parameters within explicit ecological frameworks using Bayesian hierarchical models. Recent studies have focused on blue whales, fin whales, gray whales, pilot whales, false killer whales, California sea lions, Guadalupe fur seals, harbor seals, northern elephant seals, dusky dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, common dolphins, yellowfin tuna, and whale sharks, among others, across the California Current System, the Gulf of California, the eastern tropical Pacific, the Humboldt Current System, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean Sea.
