Teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at the Experimental Biology program.
My main subjects of study have been the pathogenic dimorphic fungi Paracoccidioides brasiliensis, and more recently Sporothrix schenckii (and other members of these clonal complexes). I have a particular interest in the mechanisms of synthesis, degradation, and remodeling of fungal cell wall polysaccharides, and their potential as targets for the design of future antifungal drugs. Also, I have an interest in the molecular taxonomy of fungi and have worked in the molecular epidemiology of fungal infections in Latin America.
