Full-time professor at the Interdisciplinary Center for Marine Sciences of the National Polytechnic Institute (CICIMAR-IPN), in La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Level II within the National System of Researchers (SNI). His work and experience revolve especially around the ecology of pinnipeds (sea lions and seals) distributed in Mexican islands, such as Guadalupe, San Benito and others along the Gulf of California (e.g. Los Islotes from Complejo Insular Espíritu Santo). Additionally, he collaborates with other research groups, strengthening lines of work that focus on other marine species. During his career he has published, as main author or co-author, a little more than 100 scientific articles in international journals. He has directed graduate or undergraduate theses to approximately 35 students. From 2012 to 2018 he was Coordinator of the National Network of Marine Mammal Strandings and from 2018 to 2021 he served as the President of the Mexican Society of Marine Mammal Mammal Mammalogy (SOMEMMA). From 2021 to 2023 he was Coordinator of the Science Committee of the same Society and today he is part of the scientific advisory committee of the Society for Marine Mammalogy of the USA.
